The USFS released its summary report on the US forestry industry. The report outlines the condition of the industry over the last 5 years and proposed actions to adapt to a transforming industry sector. 

An estimated 20 million acres of Michigan's land is devoted to forests. These forests generate jobs that employ over 150,000 Michiganians and contribute $12 billion to Michigan's economy. Who owns this land? The largest landowner in Michigan is individual private landowners.

Michigan leads the nation in timber surplus – that amount of new annual forest growth that is not harvested according to US Forest Service statistics.

The third quarter report includes data on forest health in Huron Manistee, Ottawa and Hiawatha forests, third quarter Michigan market activity and third quarter timber sales on state land.
