On Earth Day, April 23, 2013, Governor Rick Snyder called a Forest Products Summit to bring to light the issues and opportunities currently facing the industry. The Governor highlight three questions the industry must address for long-term success:

The USFS released its summary report on the US forestry industry. The report outlines the condition of the industry over the last 5 years and proposed actions to adapt to a transforming industry sector. 

An estimated 20 million acres of Michigan's land is devoted to forests. These forests generate jobs that employ over 150,000 Michiganians and contribute $12 billion to Michigan's economy. Who owns this land? The largest landowner in Michigan is individual private landowners.
