Why it Matters
Michigan’s forest products industry supports manufacturing, jobs, and rural economies. MFPC helps keep it competitive by advocating for supportive policies and infrastructure, while promoting sustainable forest management that balances economic use with conservation and other forest benefits.
Our Mission
Protect & Grow Michigan’s Forest Products Economy
The Michigan Forest Products Council (MFPC) is a trade association representing Michigan’s forest products industry. Formed in March 2002, our mission is to protect, promote and sustain Michigan’s forest products economy—supporting the business side of forests (timber, wood products, paper, packaging, etc.) while also advocating for sustainability.
Membership & Structure
MFPC is membership-based and serves companies and stakeholders across the forest products value chain in Michigan. We work through committees, task forces, and partnerships (such as certification systems and landowner programs) to address industry challenges.
Our collaborative approach includes:
- Industry committees and working groups
- Partnerships with certification systems
- Landowner outreach programs
- Cross-sector collaboration initiatives

Timber Supply Sources
Michigan’s timber supply comes from diverse sources across the state. Private forests provide the majority of our timber, while state and federal lands, along with commercial forest programs, contribute to a balanced and sustainable supply chain.
