Last week the US Senate approved a version of the Farm Bill that includes authority for the Forest Service to expand the use of the Healthy Forest Restorations Act to lands which may be threatened by insects or catastrophic fire.

Today governor Rick Snyder signed a collection of bills, known as the Qualified Forestry Package, which will enable non-industrial private landowners to take a more active role in the management of their forested land. 

The Michigan Forest Products Council has joined over 50 other state and local organizations in supportisn federal legislation to protect forest roads.

The Michigan Forest Products Council commends Governor Rick Snyder for signing into law Senate Bill 289, sponsored by Senator Tom Casperson (R-Escanaba). The bill easily passed the Senate 25-13, sending it to the Governor's desk for signature. 

As the month of April draws to a close, the Michigan Forest Products Council joined in the City of East Lansing's annual tre planting celebration by donating over 30 tree seedlings to the event.
